Daisy Serebrin Project 4: CNC

Process:

The first part of my project, after watching the videos on what to do, I picked what my topography was going to be. I chose to look in Colorado because theres a lot of hills and I thought it would make a cool design. After selecting it and making it mesh, I went in and just followed the video given. I basically made what was made without the card holder, thinking it could be a paper weight. The steps were pretty simple but at some parts, I thought I was doing what the video said but I would end up with a different result. I had to back track a few times. When done, I picked the tools I wanted for each part of my paper weight and used the simulator to see how it would work. Once I was finished with my design and picking the tools, I was able to go to the CNC machine.

At the CNC machine, Austin showed me what I needed to do and look for when using the machine. He also looked at my project to make sure everything was right and that nothing would go wrong. With that done, I screwed a piece of wood on the CNC machine and the CNC started carving out my design. Once done, Ryan helped me get the project fully of the wood using a wood router.

Result:

I really like the outcome of my design. Its definitely lighter that what I thought but it might still work as a paper weight. The sheet of wood that was chosen was perfect for topography because it had different layers of wood with different wood tones.

Reflection:

Project 4 was probably the most simple and quick of the projects so far. Since there was no putting to there of anything it went quick. I think I'm getting better at using fusion 360 which is good as well.
