Lora Wargo: Proposed Mixed Techniques Final Project

Image
  1. Proposal Statement:   I intend to make the instruments for a Piper Cherokee, in particular the “pilot’s six-pack.” The “pilot’s six-pack” is the set of flight instruments that are most crucial to flying: the altimeter, vertical speed indicator, attitude indicator, turn coordinator, airspeed indicator, and the heading indicator. 2. Advise: I have discussed my idea briefly with Dr. Terrell. In particular, we discussed the ability to modulate my idea. We also briefly discussed the needles on the instruments and whether to 3D print or laser cut them.  Throughout the process, I have been discussing my design with my peers, namely Daisy Serebrin. She suggested that I could use acrylic or plexiglass and cover the instruments, as they would be covered in the actual aircraft.  3. Rough game plan:  My planned approach is to design, in Fusion  360, a base shape that I can use for all the instruments. Then, using Adobe Illustrator, I can import the base shape an...

 1. Proposal Statement:  I plan to make a thumb brace for my partner, who has a genetic condition which affects her mobility in her joints, causing regular pain and dislocations. the best way for her to be protected is to utilize braces to keep everything in place, however most braces either limit full mobility or do not cover all the necessary joints of the thumb, so I am setting out to make a thumb brace that fits her hands and can cover multiple joints while keeping mobility in certain directions.  2. Advise Hodge and my partner, both of whom are my go-tos for issues and discussions about the project and each level of development. I have already discussed with my partner the restrictions and limitations of the designs she currently uses, and what style would benefit her by preventing the specific types of dislocations each of her hands is prone to. I have discussed with Ryan already with the techniques for personalizing a medical thumb brace, we discussed the diff...

Proposal Statement I plan to make the UP house. It's my favorite Pixar house and after using the 3D machine, I knew that my balloons could be made with it.   Advise I discussed my final project with Jessica and we talked about the structure of the house. With the walls being thin with using the laser cutter, she recommended having a box or something to support the house so that it doesn't fall. Another thing we talked about using a tube and sting to make the string effect when attaching the balloons and house together. One other thing we discussed was in terms of laser cutting there are are pros and cons to each wood thickness. If its to thin then some designs might get cut out instead of edged out and if to thick some pieces might not cut all the way.  Rough game plan So for now my plan is to take it in steps with deadlines. I want to first sketch out which will be done when this blog is due. Then take two weeks to use fusion to make my house and balloons. Once that is d...
