Daisy Serebrin Final Project: Mixed Techniques

Image
Process At the start of the project, I wanted to make the UP house. When making the proposal, I already had an idea of what I wanted it to look like. Writing the proposal was easy, and being able to talk to others about it was helpful because other people's input made me think about other things that I wasn't thinking about. I found pictures of the house from different angles and answered all the questions in my blog post. After I got the comments back, I read them, thought about the answers, and got to work. When I started with Fusion 360, I started by looking at the house and drawing the different shapes needed on the table with an expo marker. I also drew the dimensions I thought it would be. I didn't want it to be big. It's like 8 inches by 6-ish inches. Once that was kind of figured out, I actually started using Fusion 360. At first, it was pretty simple. I added the walls and ceilings and it seemed to be okay at first. Then using the sketch tool, I remade the ceil...

Final Project: Alicia Brechin

Process:      So this project was a rollercoaster and an experiment. I originally started thinking about this project over spring break because I was creating a homebrew dnd group that I would be running for the first time. How I came up with this idea and that whole process was in my Final Proposal blog, so I am just going to focus on the process that happened after that blog. I initially started by asking Ryan what  I could use as a prototype of sorts. We found a big piece of cardboard I could use and this was really helpful in figuring out the size and how big was too big. After making some base measurements I sketched out the design I wanted and took it to my DnD group and we created a map of the continents.      Once I had a prototype down I worked on prototype number two. This would be a proof of concept prototype where I put the design in Adobe Illustrator and tried laser cutting it out on a smaller board. I learned two things from this pr...

Lora Wargo: Proposed Mixed Techniques Final Project

  1. Proposal Statement:   I intend to make the instruments for a Piper Cherokee, in particular the “pilot’s six-pack.” The “pilot’s six-pack” is the set of flight instruments that are most crucial to flying: the altimeter, vertical speed indicator, attitude indicator, turn coordinator, airspeed indicator, and the heading indicator. 2. Advise: I have discussed my idea briefly with Dr. Terrell. In particular, we discussed the ability to modulate my idea. We also briefly discussed the needles on the instruments and whether to 3D print or laser cut them.  Throughout the process, I have been discussing my design with my peers, namely Daisy Serebrin. She suggested that I could use acrylic or plexiglass and cover the instruments, as they would be covered in the actual aircraft.  3. Rough game plan:  My planned approach is to design, in Fusion  360, a base shape that I can use for all the instruments. Then, using Adobe Illustrator, I can import the base shape an...

Joshua Woody: Proposal: Mixed Techniques

 1. Proposal Statement:  I plan to make a thumb brace for my partner, who has a genetic condition which affects her mobility in her joints, causing regular pain and dislocations. the best way for her to be protected is to utilize braces to keep everything in place, however most braces either limit full mobility or do not cover all the necessary joints of the thumb, so I am setting out to make a thumb brace that fits her hands and can cover multiple joints while keeping mobility in certain directions.  2. Advise Hodge and my partner, both of whom are my go-tos for issues and discussions about the project and each level of development. I have already discussed with my partner the restrictions and limitations of the designs she currently uses, and what style would benefit her by preventing the specific types of dislocations each of her hands is prone to. I have discussed with Ryan already with the techniques for personalizing a medical thumb brace, we discussed the diff...

Daisy Serebrin Proposal: Mixed Techniques

Proposal Statement I plan to make the UP house. It's my favorite Pixar house and after using the 3D machine, I knew that my balloons could be made with it.   Advise I discussed my final project with Jessica and we talked about the structure of the house. With the walls being thin with using the laser cutter, she recommended having a box or something to support the house so that it doesn't fall. Another thing we talked about using a tube and sting to make the string effect when attaching the balloons and house together. One other thing we discussed was in terms of laser cutting there are are pros and cons to each wood thickness. If its to thin then some designs might get cut out instead of edged out and if to thick some pieces might not cut all the way.  Rough game plan So for now my plan is to take it in steps with deadlines. I want to first sketch out which will be done when this blog is due. Then take two weeks to use fusion to make my house and balloons. Once that is d...

Proposal Blog Post: Brechin Final Project

Proposal Statement:     For my final project, I wanted to make a fantasy gaming board which is the map of a world I am creating for my RPG group. The idea for this board is it will be made of 4 pieces that will attach together, possibly with magnets. The two edge pieces with be the complete terrain for the two major continents and the two middle pieces will be a mix of terrain and something to indicate an ocean. In the center of the board, there will be a hole for a dice box where the player will roll the dice. This dice box will have a magnetic frame and an ocean piece with a tower will cover up the box when it's not in use.  Advise:     Since I have been thinking about this project for a while I had already been sketching concept ideas (pictures below), and the two things I was getting stuck on were the size of this board and also how the pieces would come together.       In order to start working out how to fix the first problem I ex...

Joshua Woody: CNC Router

Joshua Woody: CNC Router The first thing I did was figure out what I wanted to make with the CNC machine. When I saw the cnc tutorial example of a terrain map holding something. I had the perfect idea of what I wanted. I would learn from the tutorial, find my own terrain stl generator, and plan the perfect spot for a picture holder. My fiancĂ©e and I traveled to Enchanted rock Texas in 2019 and we loved being there. We took a pretty memorable photo that I thought would be perfect framed in a holder that would sit on our shelf. Having that picture holder be Enchanted rock itself would be amazing, so I set out to do that. My first model had way too many triangles in it and fusion 360 kept crashing because it was trying to process way too many calculations every time I moved the viewer. With some help I was able to get an initial model that was smaller. I found it difficult to work with even in this mode and so I decided to use and search for a different STL generator. The STL gene...

Process     Like the rest of the projects so far this project started with a tutorial. Realizing I could use any landscape for the practice I specifically chose the Davis Mountains near the Macdonald Observatory and for a range, in the landscape, I also chose an angle near a river. Following the tutorial, I decided that this would be my final build for this project with some differences(more on those towards the end of this section).     On the first day, I chose my location and was following the tutorial. However, because of my choice of location, I had a hard time making the design fit the height parameters so I asked Ryan and Austin for help. We were able to make it fit the height requirements but it took a lot of adjustments to get the software to a point where it wouldn't crash every few steps of my trying to work with it. By the time I left for spring break, I was actually happy with the design and my cardholder.     Over spring break and the fi...
